WINTER SESSION ’08 VISITING ARTIST/CURATOR TALKS

Tuesday, January 15, 6:30pm
HIROSHI SUNAIRI
"Intuition, Material, and Elephant"
Sunairi will talk about the recent evolution of his art making. Sunairi uses materials, social issues, activism to create sculptures and installations, dealing with issues such as the remembrance of the atomic bombing in Hiroshima and 9.11. Born in Hiroshima, Japan, and now living and working in New York, Sunairi has exhibited internationally for over 10 years. His work is currently on view at the Japan Society Gallery: Making A Home: Japanese Contemporary Artists In New York through January 13, 2008. http://www.japansociety.org

SARA REISMAN
"The Plight of Site and other sagas in public art and site-specific practice"
A presentation of Reisman’s curatorial work in the public realm and stories of locational identity. Reisman is a curator and writer based in New York where she is the Program Director at the International Studio & Curatorial Program. Recent exhibitions include "Future Nomad" at Vox Populi Gallery, Philadelphia (2007), "Soft Sites" at the Institute of Contemporary Art and Bartram's Garden, Philadelphia (2006), "In the first place," a section of 3rd Bishkek Exhibition of Contemporary Art installed in underground spaces in Ala-Too Central Square, Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan (2006), and "Float" at Socrates Sculpture Park , Queens, NY (2007, 2005, 2003). She was the 2005-2006 Joanne Leonhardt Cassullo Curatorial Fellow at the New Museum of Contemporary Art and the 2004-2005 Whitney-Lauder Curatorial Fellow at the Institute of Contemporary Art at the University of Pennsylvania. Reisman participated in the Whitney Museum of American Art Independent Study Program and received her BA from the University of Chicago.
